Here are some of the historic American Samoan athletes and Olympians who have made their mark:
Megan Fonteno is an American Samoan professional swimmer. She qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London at the 100 m freestyle event. She came 26th in the world.
Ching Maou Wei is an American Samoan professional swimmer. He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, despite the absence of a professional swimming pool in American Samoa. Radio Australia called Maou Wei’s qualification as one of the “most unlikely of success stories” of the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Maou Wei was chosen as American Samoa’s flag bearer during the 2012 Summer Olympics Parade of Nations at the Opening Ceremony.
Anthony Liu is an American Samoan judoka. He qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics Men’s 100 kg competition.
Jordan Mageo is an American Samoan sprinter. She competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the women’s 100 metres race.
Benjamin Waterhouse is an American Samoan judoka. Waterhouse competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, representing American Samoa in the men’s 73 kg weight category.
Tanumafili Jungblut is an American Samoan Olympic weightlifter. He qualified for the 2016 Summer Olympics and was the American Samoan flag bearer during the opening ceremony. He won the bronze medal in the snatch at the 2016 Oceania Weightlifting Championships
Tilali Rose Leslie Scanlan is an American Samoan swimmer. She competed in the women’s 100 metre breaststroke at the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Micah Masei is an American Samoan swimmer. He competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics. In 2019 he represented American Samoa at the FINA World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea.
Tyler Justus Paige is an American competitive sailor. He competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Men’s Two Person Dinghy – 470 for American Samoa, placing 18th.
Adrian Wilhelm Jochen Hoesch (born 9 February 1993) is a German-American competitive sailor. He competed in the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Men’s Two Person Dinghy – 470 for American Samoa, placing 19th.
Nathan Ikon Crumpton is an Olympic athlete who has competed in skeleton (sledding) for the United States of America and American Samoa, and in athletics for American Samoa.
